Hafez Tomb

Khaje Shams-o-Din Muḥammad Ḥafeẓ-e Shirazi noun as Hafez, is one of the finest lyric poets of Persia. He died on late 1388 or early 1389 A.D.  or 791 A.H. at the age of 69 in Shiraz. His tomb is in Musalla Gardens, which is referred to as Hafezieh.

65 years after his death on 1452 A.D., Shams-o-Din Mohammad Yaqmaee, minister of Mirza Abolqasm Baber Gorkani, the governor of Fars, built a vaulted building on Hafez tomb and a pool in front of it that filled with the water of Ruknabad River. This monument was restored once in the beginning of  17th century during Shah Abbas reign and the second restoration was 350 years after Hafez death in the order of Nader Shah.

Karim Khan Zand ordered to build a new monument on Hafez tomb on 1767 A.D. It consists of a hall with four lofty stone columns and a big garden in front of it and a marble tombstone which exists till now.

The total area of the mausoleum is 20000 square meters with four entrance gates.
