Qeisarieh Bazaar

The northern side of the   Naqshe  Jahan  square features the great portal of the Qeisarieh Bazaar and was built contemporaneously with the portal of  Abbasi  Jame mosque during the time of shah Abbas I.  It is full of faience mosaic work and on the spandrels, there is a hunter with a human body, tiger`s   legs and a dragon`s tail, which represents the zodiacal sign of Sagittarius. In the middle of the portal, there is a painting of Shah Abbas at war with the Uzbeks and another hunting fresco with some Europeans. The Bazaar covers a considerable large area and at each of its corners, in addition to the shops, there are workshops, public-drinking places, caravansaries, mosques, bathhouses, oil pressings houses and theological schools
