Sheikh Lotf-Allah Mosque

Sheikh Lotf-Allah Mosque is one of the architectural masterpieces of Safavid architecture, standing on the eastern side of Naqshe Jahan Square.

It was constructed during the reign of Shah Abbas I, started in 1602 and was finished in 1619.

This mosque had to be a private mosque of the royal court and dedicated to Sheikh Lotfollah, a prominent religious scholar and teacher who came from Lebenon in the orders of Shah ‘Abbas I.

The special characteristics of this mosque are not having the court and minarets, 45 degree deviation for orienting of the prayer niche towards Mecca, not very high Dome, incredible prayer niche with magnificent inlaid mosaics and precious inscriptions.
